While there are plenty of ways you can tweak Facebook, here are some basic steps that will go a long way toward protecting your privacy on one of the world’s biggest social media networks.

Delete personal information

You’ll probably be surprised by how much personal information you’ve put on Facebook over the years, from places you’ve lived and visited to your phone number, birthday, and more. So your first privacy step should be to delete what you don’t want Facebook or other people to know.

On the web

On your mobile device

On your News Feed, tap your picture

Scroll down and tap “Edit Public Details,” then scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap “Edit Your About Info” at the bottom of the page

Here’s where you edit your personal information, including “Work,” “Places You’ve Lived,” and so on. To edit each, tap on the pencil icon on the right.

Switch Off Facial Recognition

Facebook has used facial recognition for years to tag your photos. If that makes you uneasy, here’s how to switch it off.

On the web:

On your mobile device:

As long as you’re here, look around to see what else you may want to tweak, such as location settings and ad preferences

Select “Control facial recognition”

On an iPhone, tap the right arrow, and from the next screen, tap “No”

On an Android device, tap the box that asks, “Do you want Facebook to be able to recognize you in photos and videos?” On the next screen, select “No”

Limit the Data Facebook Partners Collect About You

When you use Facebook to log in to other sites or mobile apps, such as newspaper sites, TripIt, Yelp, or others, those sites get access to data from your Facebook account, including your photo, name, and other information.

If you’re an Apple user, you’ll soon be able to substitute “Sign-In with Apple” instead (assuming you feel that it’s safer). Or you can simply create new logins and passwords for each app. A good password manager will help you keep track.

Once you’ve done that, you can go back and stop those sites from getting information about you from Facebook. (Note: If you haven’t logged in to those sites using Facebook in 90 days, the sites or apps won’t be able to access to the data anyway. But why wait?) If you do this using the web, you’ll be able to turn off access for specific sites, but if you do it on your phone, you can only get rid of all the connections in one fell swoop.

On the web:

Look for and select “Apps and Websites” from the left side of the screen

On your mobile device:

Find “Apps, Websites and Games,” and tap on “Edit”

Tap “Turn Off.” This will remove the permissions for every site that you formerly logged in to using Facebook.

Control Who Sees Your Posts and Personal Information

Do you really want the world to know your cat’s name, your favorite movies, and other information you might want to be seen only by friends? If you like sharing, but not with the entire world, you can control who sees your Facebook posts and other personal information.

On the web:

This is also the place where you can review each of the posts and items you’ve been tagged in, and choose whether to hide them. You can also limit past posts so that they can only be seen by friends.

On your mobile device:

In the “Your Activity” section of the screen that appears, you can make the same choices as above by selecting “Who can see your future posts,” “Limit who can see your past posts,” and “Who can see the people, Pages and lists you follow.”

Do a Quick Privacy Checkup

Facebook has put together a quick-and-dirty privacy checkup that lets you control many aspects of the information Facebook knows about you. You can complete it in about five minutes. Here’s how to do it.

On the web:

You’ll be walked through some of the privacy issues mentioned above, including who can see your Facebook posts, how much of your Profile information is public, and which apps are using Facebook as sign-ins

On your mobile device:

You’ll be walked through the same privacy issues as on the web version

How To Reset Your Mind And Mood: Dopamine Detox

Did you know that you can reset your mind with a dopamine detox?

When dopamine levels are too low, people experience depression, anxiety and overwhelm.

If you are someone who struggles with mental health issues, you’re not alone. According to the World Health Organization, more than 300 million people are now living with depression.

The good news is that you don’t have to suffer anymore. What I’m going to share with you has the power to change your life.

Ready to discover the solution for how you can reset your mind and feel better?

In the brain, dopamine functions as a neurotransmitter. It affects many aspects of your behavior, some of which include learning, motivation, and mood. Your brain is addicted to dopamine, and it will try to stimulate the repetition of the behavior that produced the dopamine hit in the first place.

Have you ever desired someone in your life? Maybe you met a man or a woman and you obsessed over them so much, to the point that you felt as if you were falling in love. When you have an experience like this, your dopamine levels in your brain skyrocket.

Let me give you an example of how dopamine plays out in the context of a relationship. In the beginning stages of dating someone, it can feel like you’re high on love. Can you relate? Everything feels so good, otherwise referred to as the honeymoon phase. During the heart-pounding excitement of new love, your brain releases a lot of phenylethylamines (PEA) which creates that punch drunk in love kind of feeling.

Unfortunately, the effects of PEA wear off with time and infatuation tends to fade within 12-18 months. When this happens, a lot of relationships end because the excitement is gone. In short, people get too complacent with one another.

There are a lot of behavioral patterns that people indulge in that are fueled by dopamine.

A simple and powerful example is sugar addiction. Dopamine creates a craving for sugar. When you crave something sweet, you may envision what the sugar will taste like when it hits your mouth. Once you taste the first bite, you may notice that the second bite isn’t as satisfying as you thought it would be.

People end up repeating this cycle which creates an addiction to sugar and binge eating. This is the direct result of dopamine overstimulation. Why is this a problem? Anything in moderation is OK. I’m not anti-anything. However, the problem arises when those things become addictive to the point that you overstimulate your dopamine levels.

When you do this, your baseline level of happiness and joy goes up. At this point, you need more of those dopamine hits in order to feel pleasure. Not surprisingly, it becomes even harder to experience a sense of aliveness. The result is feelings of depression, anxiety, or an overall lack of energy or motivation.

Here’s where things can get messy. When you stop engaging in addictive behaviors all at once, you may experience withdrawal symptoms. This is a dangerous way to detox your system. This is when it’s easy to fall back into destructive patterns of behavior that give you instant gratification.

It becomes the only way that you are able to experience happiness. People use dopamine hits as a way to mask negative emotions that they don’t want to feel. You can only distract yourself for so long before those emotions rise to the surface and start affecting every area of your life.

The solution to all of this is to do a dopamine detox.

The best way to reset your mind is to cultivate “here and now” transmitters. These include serotonin, endorphins, oxytocin, and GABA. These neurotransmitters allow you to enjoy the present moment, experience connection and be at peace with yourself. They give you lasting fulfillment and joy.

You cultivate these ” here and now” neurotransmitters by slowly starting to remove behaviors that are causing issues in your life. Pick one thing that you are addicted to, whether that’s video games, pornography, social media, coffee, or sugar. Give your mind a rest and allow your baseline to return to a normal level.

Meditation is a powerful way to increase your dopamine levels naturally and reset your brain. It’s also been found to rebuild your prefrontal cortex, which is the part of your brain that helps with self-control and willpower. If you have an overactive mind, meditation will change your life in that it will bring you back to the present moment, which is all that you have.

This is how to reset your mind and take back control of your life.

I encourage you to do some research on what a dopamine detox involves and learn how other’s lives have changed as a result of doing it. If you’re struggling, don’t give up hope. You deserve to feel good and live a happy and fulfilling life.

Are you ready to do a dopamine detox? Your brain will thank you for it.

Need To Change Your Keyboard Layout? Here’S How On Windows 10.

Windows 10 lets you add one or multiple keyboard layouts during the initial setup – also known as Out-of-box experience (OOBE) -. However, if you configured the wrong layout, or later on, you need to type in different languages, you can add and change your keyboard configuration at any time.

Typically, you won’t have to change the input settings. However, if you need to type in Spanish (to type words that include the letter “Ñ,” for example). You have to switch to United States-Dvorak, or another layout, the language settings on Windows 10 makes it easy to add and remove layouts for hardware as well as for the touch keyboards.

In this Windows 10 guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to add, switch, and remove keyboard layouts on your device.

How to add keyboard layout on Windows 10

To add a new keyboard layout on Windows 10, use these steps:

Open Settings.

Under the “Preferred languages” section, select the current default language.

Select the new keyboard layout.

Once you complete the steps, the new layout will install on Windows 10, and you can start using it with the steps below.

Windows 10 allows you to add as many keyboard layouts as you need. If you require even more keyboards, repeat the above instructions to add more layouts.

Repeat steps No. 1 and 2 to switch back to the default layout.

After you complete the steps, you can start typing with the new keyboard layout.
